LOCATING STUD OR JOISTS
Measure the distance from a
door or window to the appropriate location of
where the awning bracket is to be mounted. From inside
the building, measure from the same door or window
to the same location. Using a stud finder, locate
the stud and record the measure. Measure the same
distance outside on wall and drill locator holes
7/8" below chalk line to find center of stud.
Draw a vertical line at this location. MOUNTING
TO THE CENTER OF THE STUD IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE
ADEQUATE SUPPORT FOR THE AWNING.
Position the retractable awning bracket on the
vertical line making sure that the top of the
bracket is even with the horizontal chalk line.
Place a mark on the vertical line indicating the
center of upper and lower holes in the awning bracket.
Drill pilot holes to avoid splitting studs. Fill
all locator holes before mounting bracket. Do
not over tighten lag bolts (or other type of awning installation
bolt as necessary based on construction of home
or building) as this can split the studs.
Shims may be needed to keep
awning brackets level on siding or walls that are bowed.
Retractable awning mounting hardware such as through bolts or toggle
bolts may be required for hollow core walls. Solid
concrete walls may need special "red eye"
bolts. If brick veneer wall, you may need to install
a 2" x 8" board through the wall into
the studs with lag screws, then mount the awning
to the board. You may want to use extra
bolts when installing the retractable awning. Based on your type of home or building
construction, we suggest that you contact a local
fastener company for their awning installation recommendations.
AWNINGS CEILING (SOFFIT/EAVE/OVERHANG)
MOUNT INSTALLATION
Attach the Universal awning bracket
through the flat surface of the soffit into previously
located joists with their appropriate fasteners.
Please be aware of "dummy" soffits which
